By offering both the ‘resort’ and ‘hostel’ accommodation options at the Maekok River Resort & Outdoor Education Centre in Ban Thaton, Chiang Mai, and including several free vouchers or discounts to allow your choice of activities, we have options that suit the needs and budgets of both families and groups of friends.
On the banks of the Kok River, at the northern end of the Fang Valley, MRVR is located between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. The resort is surrounded by mountains that are home to several different ethnic minority groups. MRVR can be accessed by air via Chiang Mai (+ a 3hr tour/transfer) or Chiang Rai (+ a 1.5hr tour/transfer) or by road from further afield. There are numerous interesting attractions en route. (See. (Option 2 – The Hostel Option)

The Outdoor Education Centre and the Hostel that traditionally houses our visiting school and university groups is located in one corner of the resort. The hostel accommodates up to 130 people in 3 blocks of 6 x 8-bed air-conditioned bunk rooms, each with two western bathrooms en suite.
The hostel is also being used with a 6 person maximum per bunk bed room to accommodate groups of friends attending our Upcountry Escapades at budget rates.

The Activities at and from the Resort
The Maekok River Village Resort & Outdoor Education Centre is a well-established and highly regarded provider of outdoor, environmental education and community service programmes to the international schools’ market. The facilities, staff, risk management and safety protocols are all compliant with international best practices. Programmes/activities are supervised by qualified Western and Thai instructors. Public liability insurance is in place.

Biking | An accompanied bike ride around the Fang valley the route and distance taken depending upon the level of fitness, but taking at least 2 hours. Activity Schedule
At the start of each ‘Upcountry Escapade’, an activity schedule (mornings, afternoons, evenings) will be posted in reception. It will display the ‘opt-in’ activities for the duration of the programme. These are based on the preferences as stated on your online booking form.
Activities can also be run for ‘private groups’ on request, and subject to availability.






VWB Appeal
The Maekok River Village Resort, supported by the Volunteers Without Borders Foundation has a long history of providing support for local schools, the area’s only Special Needs Centre, and a further education programme for those in our extended community area.
We welcome any contribution you care to make in support of our initiatives. This could be a simple cash donation to allow us to continue with our community work in these difficult times, or if you have a teaching specialism, and a bit of time on your hands, we can arrange for you to spend time in one of our local schools, or at our Special Needs Centre.
