From the moment you check-in at the Meekok River resort you are made welcome. The lovely landscaping, the exotic garden, the beautifully decorated rooms, etc.; all is testimony to the love and care of the owners for all details. The food is excellent, from general Thai fare over northern Thai specialities to the mouth-watering crepe Suzette. We truly enjoyed all our stays at this beautiful resort and are looking forward to our next time.
Enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing 3 nights at this peaceful gem in Northern Thailand. Loved our little bungalow overlooking a pond in the garden and it had everything we needed to feel at home. Spent a lazy day by the pool as well as venturing into the mountains (with the hotel’s help) to visit Mae Salong with a nice recommendation for lunch. Rosie, one of the owners, gave us a very informative history of the town and also introduced the work the hotel does with local schools and communities. It’s great to know you’re staying somewhere that doesn’t just pay lip service to the idea of CSR but is really making a difference. Enjoyed some yummy meals in the restaurant – must try the Shan cuisine (pumpkin with egg, vegetable fritters) and khao soi noodles! On our last day, the hotel arranged a boat to take us 2 hours down the river to Chiang Rai. Amazing experience to round off a perfect stay.
Stayed three nights here and could have easily stayed longer. Excellent surroundings with lots to do. Fantastic drives and beautiful places to see. I would highly recommend the cooking course. The instructor was able to communicate her expert knowledge of Thai cuisine well. The rooms here are very nice, as is the restaurant. All of the resort staff (from waiters to gardeners) were super friendly. Definitely worth the nice drive out from Chiang Mai/Rai.
I have travelled in 24 countries and stayed in the full gambit of resorts..from 5 star luxury in Cape South Africa to rough and tumble conditions trekking in Nepal. This was an extended daddy daughter date for her 21st birthday which coincided with her early college graduation. What a spectacular resort. It is a little slice of Eden. We were there IN April, the hottest time of the year so it just happened to be that we were to only guests the couple night we were there. We got to meet the owners who are simply gracious, warm, and interesting people. If you are in this part of the world you must go here. I am an executive coach and contemplating going here with some clients. The food was great the accommodations great. But the scenery? SPECTACULAR. They have done a great job with the property.
We have stayed many times at this lovely resort on the river bank, and each time we have been thoroughly impressed with the service, the location and the atmosphere of the place. The rooms are comfortable and there is intermittent wifi, and several English T.V. channels, the shower was artistic and powerful, and the beds were very comfortable. There was lots to do for all of the family including boat trips, scenic drives, archery, rock climbing and beautiful gardens to explore and relax in
We only had one night here, but would have loved a few more. The hotel is super cozy, placed by a river. It is divided into many bungalows with a few rooms in each. The room is nice and clean for a jungle hotel, and we were happy.
The restaurant was placed with a perfect view of the horizon over the river and jungle. They served nice food, and we good a great a la carte breakfast experience too.
We stayed here as family of four in a deluxe suite and it says that everything that pretty much as soon as we arrived we asked to stay an extra night, and we would have stayed longer if we hadn’t been booked in elsewhere. The rooms were lovely and full of really thoughtful touches such as the lamp and matches for sitting outside, slippers , lovely comfy beds and I especially loved how they filled my kettle for me each day. We also loved that you could order cocktails and cashew nuts to your room to watch the sun go down, despite the super comfy beds it’s worth getting up early to watch the sunrise its spectacular . Whilst here we did two trips ,the half day Kayak and a walk to the nearby villages. Because of their work with international schools the guides are excellent with children and both of ours were enthralled, the kayaking really built the kids confidence and we learnt so much on our walk with Pee.
We recently returned from a seven-night stay at this one-of-kind place. As an expat family living in a large, crowded, and dusty city, we were looking for a vacation that would give us a real change of pace, but still have enough activity for our children (4 and 7 years old.) We decided early on to go for northern Thailand, and doing some research repeatedly turned up the MRVR as a unique, family-friendly place. The reviews were glowing, and the reality did not disappoint! We spent seven truly blissful days here that were a wonderful blend of relaxation, down time, and adventure. The gardens were spectacular and all the flowers were in bloom. We had easy access to the activities at the outdoor education center where the staff took us on some wonderful outings like tubing and kayaking. We enjoyed several fascinating tours in the surrounding areas that showed us a part of Thailand that we wouldn’t likely have seen otherwise. What really stands out about the MRVR is the thoughtful intentionality the infuses every part of it. The outdoor education center hosts student groups year-round who come to help out in the many projects that MRVR supports in the surrounding hill tribe areas.
What a beautiful place to just ‘be’ — wonderful gardens, fantastic food, very friendly and attentive staff, lovely comfortable accommodation — and on top of all, the inspirational educational programme set up by the owners, to support the local community and broaden the horizons of hundreds of students from all over the world. A truly magical place!
My family and I stayed at MKRV in May for my 40th birthday. Having stars here in 2012 I knew I wanted to spend my 40th birthday here. The location, rooms and above all, the super friendly and obliging staff make your stay something special. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff, evidence of which was the attention to detail they paid to making my birthday a memorable event. MKRV will always be ‘must do’ for us when we travel to Thailand. Thank you Bryan, Rosie and all the team at MKRV
Far from the crowds, nicely located on the Kok River, nestled in beautiful gardens, this is a “diamond in the rough” not to be missed. It is really too bad for all the tour groups or individuals mainly staying for one night, if not only for lunch, they are missing a fantastic opportunity to discover the North differently, biking, hiking, kayaking, or by boat, car… Hill tribes, villages, elephant camps, everything is easy to visit from the Resort.
Moreover, ask Rosie and Bryan about their amazing community projects programme, and their continuous support to many local schools. With their excellent and accommodating service, very good specialities from the North and the Shan country, refreshing pool, massages, etc.., Bryan, Rosie and their staff granted us the best holidays possible! It was perfect !
This was our second visit to The Maekok and it certainly won’t be our last! The location is beautiful and the accommodation excellent. The restaurant overlooks the immaculate gardens and the river. The quality of the service and food is second to none. The staff, without exception are all very friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Trekking and water based activities are available and there is a lovely swimming pool on site. However, it is also a great place just to relax and take in the scenery. We cannot thank Bryan, Rosie and the staff enough for making us so welcome and treating us so well during our stay. Faults? There are none!

We crossed from Burma at Tashilik and the hotel arranged a taxi pick-up to our Avis car at Chiang Rai airport. An easy hour drive then to the resort. Everything went like clockwork thanks to the resort’s manager. This was apparently a bit of a primeur trial run! This place tops the list for value for money and we really enjoyed the restaurant and our room with its private garden was ideal. We aren’t fussy or super-critical but we would be hard put to, to fault this place. The “location category”, below, really depends on what you are after but this hotel is an excellent base for exploring northern Thailand.

We recently stayed here during a 2 week holiday in Thailand and Laos and I have to say this resort was one of the highlights of the holiday. Bryan and his team made us feel very welcome and the resort was wonderful. Our room was great and had a beautiful verandah and garden leading down to a small stream. If I had to pick out one thing that makes this resort stand out from the rest (apart from the fantastic staff) it would be the food which was absolutely superb. With a mix of Thai and local Shan dishes on the menu we were spoilt for choice. We were so impressed by the standard of the food we decided to do one of the cooking courses on offer, the guys on the course were brilliant and we came away with three new dishes to try at home! All in all a fantastic resort and we can’t wait to return. Thanks again to Bryan and his team.
